If you’ve got your air conditioner set to high, and you’re still sweating, you may be thinking it’s time to schedule an air conditioning service. We’re always ready to help Pasco County homes stay cool, but we’ve also got a few tips to help you get more comfortable in the meantime. Here are four things to try to get your air conditioner working again:
1. Change or clean the filter.
One of the biggest reasons that an AC may not be working correctly is that the air filter is clogged. When the air filter is dirty or obstructed, your air conditioning can’t cool the home properly. Changing it, or cleaning a reusable filter, may help it stay cooler in your home, and will definitely help the quality of the air.
2. The temperature is set too low.
Did you know that setting your air conditioner to a temperature that is too low can cause it to run less efficiently? This can cause your air conditioner to not work as well, and although you may get an initial blast of cooler air, over time, your home will be warmer than if the temperature had been set slightly higher to prevent the air conditioner from working too hard. The best way to prevent this is to find the warmest temperature that you are comfortable with, and stick to it.
3. The temperature isn’t being automatically controlled.
Another thing that can cause an air conditioner to wear out fast is to be running all day long as the temperature outside fluctuates. If you are setting your thermostat to keep the air in the house at the same level all day long, even when you aren’t there, your air conditioner is working much harder than it needs to. Set it to allow the house to warm up when you aren’t there, to give the AC a break, and to kick back on about 10 to 20 minutes before you’re scheduled to come home.
4. It’s been too long since you’ve had an air conditioning service.
The last thing that may be causing your air conditioner to not work properly is the length of time since the last servicing. Just like other major building systems, air conditioners need regular servicing to stay in working condition.
